Christmas in Florida

I love going home for christmas... but for the past few years, we haven't been able to get down to see my family. So this year, we decided it would be worth the trip and we flew down to Florida for the holiday.

It was so nice leaving the sub-zero temperatures of Illinois to spend some time in tropical Florida weather. The temperatures never dropped below 70 or so during the day and we had lots of sunshine.

We visited Epcot over in Disney on our first day there. Not my favorite Disney park, but fun with the family. We then spent some quality time with the family and had some time for shopping the after christmas sales with my cousin, Neva.

Hubby and I got to go to the beach twice - once we drove to my old beach hang-out, Manatee County beach on Anna Maria Island. Then two days later, we drove over to St. Pete Beach and hung out in the historic Pass-a-Grille Beach area, had lunch, and soaked up the sun.

We did lots of outdoors stuff, too, like driving to see my friend, Sarah, up in Gainesville and visiting the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings historic house near there. We also did some hiking with my folks at a new nature center in Lakeland. Saw lots of gators there!

All in all, it was a great trip. We were very sad to have to return home to the frigid temperatures, but Stinky was happy to see us!

I was in Florida for Christmas also. I did not want to go home, was loving the warm weather and warm water. We went to Seaworld on new years day and Disney World the next day. Crazy crowded! When we left home it as -17c and there was a huge snow storm while we were gone. So glad I was not home. :-)
